How we decide what to build
Six questions before the first line.
Every app idea sounds good on the day you have it. Before we write the first line of code for one of our own products, the idea has to get through these.
Value
What does it do for people that they can't easily do today?
Who
Who exactly is it for, and can we reach them?
Revenue
How does it pay for itself, and when?
Competition
Who already does this, and why would anyone switch?
Room
Is there real space left in the market?
Risk
What could make it irrelevant in a year?
Most ideas don't get past the second or third question. That's the point. Saying no early is much cheaper than saying no after six months of building.
A few have made it through. We're building them now.
