The problem
PEF Energy turns a solar or battery-storage project into an investment case. Developers, investors and lenders describe a project in guided forms, pay per run, and receive a long-term financial model with a PDF report. The models started as the client's own spreadsheets, and the platform has to match their numbers, every time.
Our work
We joined the engineering team in 2026 and work across the whole platform: the web apps for customers and administrators, the services that run each model, and the reports. Since joining, we have built a separate test environment, a deployment pipeline that uses short-lived credentials instead of stored keys, and a record of exactly what produced each result. We have hardened sign-in, added live progress for every run, and added modelling inputs such as land purchase, curtailment and power purchase agreements, along with redesigned reports.
One technical detail
The spreadsheets stay the reference. The engine's tests rebuild a reference project from the client's spreadsheet and check capital costs, financing, revenue, degradation, operating costs, tax and IRR against the spreadsheet's own numbers. They run on every change, so a result that drifts from the reference stops the pipeline before it can reach a customer. Each result also records the model version and the exact inputs it used, so any run can be traced and reproduced.
