The problem
AyaGuide is a personal guide for self-discovery. People talk with an AI guide, by text or by voice, and follow programs shaped by their own profile. The app existed before we joined, and we work on improving and developing it. A conversation only works if it feels immediate, so much of that work has been about speed, and about changing what runs underneath without users noticing.
Our work
Since joining, we have moved the guide to a different AI provider, made replies stream in as they are written, in text and in voice, moved the rules for paid features onto the server, and upgraded the framework the app is built on.
One technical detail
In a voice conversation, the guide starts speaking before its answer is finished. The backend streams the reply one sentence at a time and cuts the first piece early, at a natural pause once it is long enough to sound complete, so speech starts about a second sooner. Voice turns also skip a reference lookup whose links the listener would never hear, which removes about four seconds.
